SECRET RECOMMENDATIONS | People Centred Research CIID | 2015
In Collaboration with the Kobenhavns Kommune and Solutions Lab , Team : Shruti KNR ,Sierra N ,Ciaran D
In this two-week project, we worked together with Copenhagen Municipal Council (Københavns Kommune) to conduct design research for a project aiming to repurpose 800 of the city’s 1600 parking meters.
A series of interviews with residents and tourists were done using field research, co-creation and prototype testing, the findings and design proposals were presented to the Kommune at the end of the two-weeks.
Having prototyped an early iteration of such a concept, some insights emerged around the assumption that engagement would occur between pedestrians and a touchscreen device at street level.
Our initial field research, it became clear that Copenhagen could greatly benefit from a system that allowed users to learn about ‘secret’ places, cafés, bars, events etc, in a manner that still preserved them as ‘hidden gems’ within the city.
Working within this domain, the goal was to discover design directions through user-centred research and testing.
The concept proposal was a system between tourists and residents. The information shared by Residents locale to the area could benefit the tourists.
The tourists can also share their experiences.
FURTHER CONCEPT DIRECTIONS
Working within this domain, the goal was to discover design directions, which could be used for Hackathon to repurpose the parking meters.
Enable authentic experiences with hyper-local knowledge. Each Parking Meter can be a source of hype-local knowledge based on it's location.Hence ensuring authentic experiences.
Harness the parking meters’ dispersion throughout the city. These could be networked Parking meters that can utilise geo-located information and share with citizens.
Parking meters are the link between people and hidden spaces.
These findings were later used as inspiration and guidance
for participants of the Hack-a-thon,
scheduled to be completed in Autumn 2015.
